The Mass Driver Turret was introduced in 0.7.2 WIP, RC1. It's a second generation modular design and first modular turret design to be released. It's compatible with 3rd generation modular design to be released at a later date.

Overview

The Mass Driver Turret is a roof mounted turret which fires railgun shots similar to vanilla but ultimately not as powerful.

Usage

Just place it like any other roof turret. However, in order to use the modular system the surrounding space is needed to place buffing module parts. The Mass Driver Extender is a special rail part specifically for this turret and cannot be used elsewhere. Unlike other weapon modules the extender can be placed all around. Each extender is a barrel extending part which buffs the weapon's shot speed, range, and penetration and does literally extend the barrel.

The turret can fires 4 different types of shots: railgun shot, cluster shot, starshell shot, EMP-AP. The railgun shot is a normal railgun shot but less powerful than railgun. The cluster shot releases bomblets which explode on contact. The starshell shot disperses small EMP bomblets over the target ship. The EMP-AP shot penetrates into the ship before releasing an EMP pulse.

If the turret is destroyed all mounted weapons will be lost. It requires bullets and power.

known issues with Cosmoteer 0.15.5 to 0.15.6a

  • Due to a buff bug a workaround is used to check for the buff which will cause the barrel to keep changing when more than one Extender is used in the setup.
  • Due to a buff bug with variable buffing the amount of buff received will not show up.

Building recommendations

  • In order to use module parts leave surrounding space empty. At least one tile space is needed.
