The Shield Array Core was introduced in 0.7.0 as part of the shield array system.

Overview

The core serves as the main power source and charging element in the shield array system. It supplies the Shield Array Emitter with power.

Usage

The core must be build within 55 tiles of a core in order to receive power. In blueprint mode a connected green sign is shown when they are in range. The core's recharge amount is limited, hence, the more emitters it has to power the lower each emitter can be charged with. The recommended number of emitters at which point they would equal vanilla shield is about 12 emitters. More cores would be needed in the presence of more emitters to compensate. The recharge can be buffed by a Gravity Generator.

Changes

  • Abh 0.7.2 RC2 for Cosmoteer 0.15.10: Vanilla has introduced a new feature allowing buffed parts to share ammo. This feature is basically the very same system implemented here. It's a real ammo pool but with minor disadvantages in comparison. This feature has a backflow which may cause a loop as well as ignoring receiver further down the list. As such under circumstance it may disable the shield emitters. While Abh's original implementation is based on buff communication to dynamically control flow as needed sharing is now directly tied to storage state and direct transfer which may loop. So overall the new feature is subpar to the original implementation but it's more convenient code wise and supposedly less laggy (but may loop) due to no longer requiring a feedback buff. To counter its disadvantage the core's storage was increased by 50%.
